8-30-09 Romans 13
If you knew you had only one year of life left to live, would you change your priorities and your schedule? If your would repriorities your life in the face of immanent death, then why not change even if death is not around the corner? What would be better priorities? What would be some healthy changes? Maybe the best change we could make is to live more like Jesus. Living like Jesus is what the Apostle Paul is urging in Romans 13.

8-23-09 Romans 12
Our breathing is a good reminder of what the Christ follower's life should be like. We take in and afterward release outwardly. If we only take in oxygen and do not release, we will become ill. Likewise the Christ follower becomes spiritually ill if they focus only on what they "take in" from worship, prayer and volunteering.
In Romans 12, the Apostle Paul compares Christ's Church to a human body. All parts of the body need to take in the Holy Spirit like oxygen and in response we need share the Spirit's gifts.

Tday's lesson is from Romans 7. Paul shares about "the Law." God's law has two purposes. First to keep order here on earth. Second the Law shows us the reality that, as humans, we can never earn God's love...which leads to despair. This despair leads us to rely, not on our inadequate human works to earn God's love, but to trust wholly on God's grace.

6-14-09 The Shack - Part 8: Heaven
What does Heaven look like? As the old joke goes, "People are dying to get in and see." But seriously, Christ followers have been wondering about this question for centuries. Trouble is no one can tell with any experience of Heaven. True some have near death experiences and describe those experiences, but no one really knows from long lasting experience.

6-7-09 The Shack - Part 7: Healing & Relationships
Our God is a God in relationship...and...He calls us to be in relationship with Him. Within any relationship there is conflict and struggle. Jesus, in the Garden, struggles with his calling to the cross, but then submits to his Father's will. Later on the Cross, one might assume that the Father would like to kill Jesus' excutioners, yet Jesus asks God the Father to "forgive" them.
We, as humans, have our struggles too. We have struggles within ourselves, struggles with others and even struggles with God. All of these struggles are a natural part of being in relationship. The struggles and the conflicts are naturual and neutral, but how respond to the struggles and conflict determines whether they will help us grow and be a positive or tear us apart and become negative. Ultimately God's wants healing and restoration for us and for all of our relationships. May you receive healing, restoration and forgiveness through this message and through God's promise to forgive anyone who turns back to His grace, love and forgiveness.

5-31-09 The Shack: Part 6 - Faith and Imagination
The beloved Christian hymn goes, "For the beauty of the earth, For the glory of the skies, For the love which from our birth,Over and around us lies. Sanctification is where what God is doing on the inside, mind, heart and soul and making come alive with words and actions. Sanctification is God's goal for all Christ followers. Sickness and Cure: Part 3 - Scarcity
In the late 1980s at the time of our last deep recession, Tracy Chapman sang her satirical, socially conscious song, "Mountain O' Things." There are many parallels between the late 80's, a depressed economy, rising inflation and sinking optimism. In addition, that culture and this culture tells us we live in a time of a increasing scarcity. And yet, from a global perspective, most Americans live in opulence.
Is this truly a time of scarcity? Or is it a time of abundance crippled by short-sightedness? Can we be poor in things, but rich in spirit?
Join us for part 3 in our 6 part series, the Sickness and the Cure. Today's teaching is about the myth of scarcity. Just click the above video and afterward feel free to post a comment. God bless and give 'em heaven!

Sickness and Cure: Part 2 - Selfishness
The stock market is tumbling, the economy is tanking and your 401k...don't get me started...and we are searching for answers. Whose fault is it? There are many places to put the blame. Wall Street, Bernard Madoff, GM are but a few easy targets. But when we really get honest with ourselves, we know deep down, we share a portion of the blame. There is a sickness that is buried deep under the skin and it is called "selfishness." We need to conquer it, but we need help to do so.

2-22-09 Sermon JOSHUA 24
We, in the United States, live in the "Land of the Free," but are we really free? Many are deep in financial debt. Others are in dependent or codependent relationships. In the late 1970s, Bob Dylan had a religious conversion and sang, "Gonna have to serve somebody. It may be the Devil or it may be the Lord, but you're gonna have to serve somebody." Which begs the question, is there really such a thing as free will? Intrigued? Just click the above video to watch for insight. Afterward feel free to share your thoughts or questions on this blog.
